Day 1

Arrive at The Ogle International Airport via Trans Guyana Airways/Gum Air on a scheduled flight.  Proceed via Trans Guyana Airways on a scheduled flight, which departs around 11 am to your first destination, The Rock View Lodge, which is ideally located in an Amerindian community affording good access to the Iwokrama Reserve, Surama Village and Karanambo Ranch. During your stay, savannahs, mountains, rainforest, rivers and a family atmosphere with excellent ranch regional cuisine surround you. After which you can tour the foothills of the Pakaraimas Mountains. You can also join the vaqueros on horseback as they take cattle out to graze.

Day 2

After an early breakfast of local dishes, depart Rock View to visit the Iwokrama Canopy Walkway, The new state-of-the-art facility that winds through the treetops. Pass through 35 miles of unbroken rainforest to Guyana’s only canopy walkway, which offers a magnificent view over the forest canopy ideal for bird watching and wildlife spotting. Just imagine yourself cruising on the Essequibo River through the black of night, maybe lit only by a pale moon. Your guide shines the spotlight and there it is… the red-eye glare of the Black Caiman! Frequently and closely seen lying on the river banks, the world’s largest of the alligator family grows to 6 metres (20 ft.) long. A boat ride at night may also introduce you to other nocturnal creatures such as Tree Boas, Pacas, Nightjars, and Hyla tree frogs.

Day 3

After lunch, take a tour of Surama Village.  The Amerindian community of Surama is located in the heart of Guyana. The village is set in five square miles of savannah which is ringed by the forest-covered Pakaraima Mountains. Surama’s inhabitants are mainly from the Macushi tribe and still observe many of the traditional practises of their forebears.  A local guide will escort you for a short walk on a trail to observe the forest and bird life. As the afternoon cools your guide will take you on a tour of the village. Visit the local school, medical centre, and church along with some of the village houses.  Our guides will then paddle you on the Burro Burro River for opportunities to observe Giant River Otters, Tapir, Tira, Spider Monkeys and many more species. Make your way back via the river and road to Rock View Lodge for a scrumptious dinner.

Day 4

After Breakfast, join a scheduled flight with Trans Guyana Airways to The Kaieteur Falls, situated on the Potaro River, which boasts the largest single drop in the world at 741 feet, five times the height of Niagara Falls. After two hours hiking at Kaieteur, embark on a forty-five minutes flight to Baganara Island Resort, where you have lunch.  After which, take a trip up to Marshall Falls where a nature lover paradise awaits you, walk through the rainforest to the waterfall, where you can swim and climb the falls.

Day 5

On this morning around 6 am, you will have a chance to explore the nature trail where a guide will walk you through the mildly challenging terrain as you look for birds and wildlife to discover nature at its best in unspoilt surroundings.  After which you enjoy a boat ride along the mighty Essequibo River, learning a little about our Dutch History.    Another notable landmark which continues to attract tourists to Guyana is the Dutch fort Zeelandia on Fort Island in the Essequibo River. This brick fort, which still retains its main features, was built in 1743. The man responsible for its construction was Laurens Storm van Gravesande. As it turned out, Gravesande played a major role in Guyana’s early development. He arrived first at Fort Kyk-over-al in 1738 to serve as Secretary to the Commander, Hermanus Gelskerke. Together, they decided to move the capital of Essequibo downriver to Fort Island in order to have ready access to more fertile land. Gravesande was appointed Commander (Governor) of Essequibo in 1743, following the death of Gelskerke. After the boat ride along the Essequibo River to Roed-en-Rust, road transportation awaits you to proceed to Georgetown.  Before continuing to Georgetown, take a tour of our Heritage Museum located on the West Coast of Demerara.

Depart your hotel after breakfast for your return flight with Transguyana Airways/ Gum Air.
